“Gosh!” Tom’s looks registered his annoyance. ‘I was just punished by Mr. Lam for downloading some music software onto the library’s computer.’
Tom was a music maniac; he always downloaded the most up-to-date music that he could find on the Internet. Unfortunately, he got caught recently. Mr. Lam signed him up for 3 days’ detention, but that was negligible when compared with a much more severe lesson he got later! Well, it’s time for him to take the responsibility for what he had done.
Apart from detention, he also needed to make a soundtrack for the upcoming ‘DJ Mix Competition’ as Mr. Lam considered him a talent and Tom never failed Mr. Lam. He spent two entire months dedicating himself to the sound track, delving into various instruments and immersing himself in every beat and note. He wanted everything perfect for the sound track. With certainty, Mr. Lam was extremely contented with his effort.
Every single effort finally paid off in the competition and Tom turned out to be the winner. He was so jubilant until the gloomy clouds drifted in. As his awarded soundtrack was the number one hit on the chart, many people downloaded it illegally from various websites. At that time, he felt utterly devastated and harassed. However, like a bolt of thunder striking his head real hard, he became sober, realizing what he had done was wrong. Downloading software illegally onto his computer was completely irresponsible and immoral. It shows disrespect to the writer. When you click the download button, you are hurting the writer and scraping his hard work without his consent.
I reckoned my teacher has done a great job in teaching Tom a lesson. It may be cruel to him but it was for his own good sake. Tom has now turned over a new leaf. How about you? So, next time when you are going to hit the key, be cautious and think twice!
